“What is Emotional Abuse?Abuse is any behavior that is designed to control and subjugate another human being through the use of fear, humiliation, and verbal or physical assaults. Emotional abuse is any kind of abuse that is emotional rather than physical in nature. It can include anything from verbal abuse and constant criticism to more subtle tactics, such as intimidation, manipulation, and refusal to ever be pleased.Emotional abuse is like brain washing in that it systematically wears away at the victim’s self-confidence, sense of self-worth, trust in their own perceptions, and self-concept. Whether it is done by constant berating and belittling, by intimidation, or under the guise of “guidance,” “teaching,” or “advice,” the results are similar. Eventually, the recipient of the abuse loses all sense of self and remnants of personal value. Emotional abuse cuts to the very core of a person, creating scars that may be far deeper and more lasting than physical ones (Engel, 1992, p. 10).”

okay folks, I’m going public. I started a new tumblr for myself that is all about ME.

It’s purpose is two-fold. One, to shameless share tons of photos of myself as Dot and Ander (okay, lets be realistic - mostly as Dot. who’s more vain??) Secondly, to write publicly about my thoughts on my gender identity & expression.

It’s the second thing I’m most worried about. I talk about my gender in a different way than many of the trans and genderqueer folks I follow on here and know IRL. I’m talking about the binary way I experience & discuss things like boy mode, girl mode, etc. So, acknowledging that fear that people are going to judge me as having bad politics, or dislike the way I write, (insert more insecurities here) .. I’m putting it out there anyway because I have to start sharing myself publicly. It’s what I feel called to do right now, and have for a while. I also want to engage with the other AMAZING people who I’m following on here (and are SO inspirational to me) in a way that is more intimate than through reblogging other people’s images.

And I don’t have to be perfect. Obviously, I can continue to hold myself at a high standard, but I must allow myself to go forth and make mistakes. Tumblr is not a bad playground for this. Usually, when you fuck up there’s a whole line-up of people ready to tell you what you did wrong. I welcome that if it comes.
